Tyler’s Playtime Ball

4l1a6178What better way to announce our arrival in the South of England than by planning a hugely successful charity black tie ball?!

Tyler’s Playtime Ball was held to raise money for the Tyler Reader Brighter Future Fund at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Tyler passed away in November 2015 at just  34 months old after developing sepsis, and since his death his family have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of sepsis and money for the fantastic people at GOSH who fought so hard to save his life.

The spectacular event was held at The Conservatory at the Luton Hoo Walled garden, where 190 guests partied the night away with Tyler’s family, helping them remember their special little boy in the best possible way.

I DO worked closely with the fundraising team to create an evening of elegance and fun, with the aim of getting the event talked about in the local community to allow the ball to run annually.

The ball raised in excess of £20,000 for GOSH and the fundraising team have been inundated with emails from guests asking for details of next years event. We look forward to working with the fundraising team again, and helping Tyler’s memory live on in his local community.

The importance of a thank you…

Planning a wedding for someone is an absolute privilege; to have been chosen to design, plan & manage what will become one of the most special days in a person’s whole life is a real honour.

We put so much of ourselves into each wedding.  Our clients don’t see the blood, sweat and sometimes tears that go into making sure that every little detail is perfect on their big day.

The aftermath of a wedding is a really happy bubble of memories and excitement as the newlyweds begin the next chapter of their lives.  That’s why it’s so wonderful when, in amongst all of this, a couple take the time to send us a Thank You.

We received this beautiful card earlier this week and just wanted to share it with you, because words like this really make a difference to how we feel.   We could certainly feel a little glow flowing around the office when it arrived, and maybe even the odd high five,  proving that it was worth all the hard work.

THANK YOU Guy & Lucy for evoking those feelings!

Corporate Christmas Party at Unity Works

1

We love planning events as much as weddings here at I DO and I’m very conscious that we don’t often manage to obtain imagery of the designs that we create.

That’s why on Saturday I took my camera down to Unity Works in Wakefield and snapped a few images of the elegant Christmas party that we had created.

Our client wanted a festive themed event without looking too traditional, so we chose a colour palette that worked with the room and still gave a feeling of Christmas.

Because you can never have too much glitz and glamour we chose to spray manzanita trees with silver glitter.  Adding carefully selected crystal drops we created a stunning effect as the light was thrown around the room.  The images can’t really portray how this looked in reality.

Nothing evokes the feeling of Christmas more than spruce – so we used this to dress the ledges around the room and added over 100 candles to bring some warmth into the room.

REAL WEDDING: Guy & Lucy : Contemporary Chic Elegance

01

Lucy & Guy contacted I DO Wedding & Event Planning right at the beginning of their wedding planning process.  They wanted to work with someone who knew the local area and suppliers, but more importantly with someone who understood them as people.  After searching google for a Yorkshire Wedding Planner, they found I DO and we began to help to bring their wedding to life.

An extremely current couple with clear ideas of how they wanted their day to look and run. Their goal was to achieve a wedding abundant with sophistication and elegance.

The attention to detail with their wedding was simply breathtaking and started right at the beginning of our planning process with them.

Their day began with an exquisitely romantic ceremony in a local Church.

And so the knot was tied and it was time for the party to start…..

Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the sunshine.  The sound of house music was complimented by the sultry sounds of a live saxophonist.

The stunning marquee was a real labour of love for us – we worked so hard to make sure that every detail was exactly how Lucy had pictured it.

REAL WEDDING: Katie & Mathew – A SURPRISE Wedding

Katie & Matthew-017

Yes you read that correctly…SURPRISE WEDDING!  When Katie contacted us she sent the office into an excitement frenzy!  She wanted to know if we could plan a wedding without anyone knowing but the bride and groom!!  Whilst they wanted to get married, they didn’t want the big build up and pomp and circumstance surrounding a wedding.

Mathew’s 30th birthday was approaching and she was hoping to invite guests to a pretend surprise birthday party for Mathew.  So the guests all thought the surprise was for Mathew; it turned out that the surprise was on them!

Katie wanted everything to be beautiful with a well thought out design, but with a really relaxed feel.

We had just four months to create a surprise wedding in their garden!

They have three children and wanted them to be a big part of their day.  We suggested gathering the guests together in the teepee and letting the little boys walk in together first with this sign………     many tears were shed!

Katie & Matthew-001

So many of the design touches couldn’t be put out until after the ceremony as it would have given the game away.  The I DO team worked hard to quickly change the feel from a party to a wedding.

This wedding still goes down as one of our most memorable for a whole host of reasons.

Here is the moment where Mathew saw Katie for the first time.  Imagine the excitement at seeing your bride, and then the intimacy of a secret that only the two of you knew.

The moments between the ‘First Look’ and them walking in to reveal the real surprise to all of their closest family and friends were incredibly special and we felt privileged to be part of.

The Ceremony was personalised and beautiful.  Katie and Mathew wanted their guests stood around relaxed with a drink.  Katie was adamant that she was getting married with a glass of champagne in her hand so we made sure that they were handed to them as they walked in.

REAL WEDDING: Anna & Alan’s ‘Festival of Love’ at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

01

After a memorably romantic candle lit proposal, Anna & Alan searched high and low for their perfect wedding venue.  It needed to be somewhere that felt relaxed with lots of open spaces. They love nature and the outdoors.  They also love music.

They found and booked Yorkshire Sculpture Park but were concerned as to how they could create a wedding that was representative of their personalities in a relatively modern building.  There is also a very small window of time in which you can set up the venue because the building is open to the public until the evening.  Both are challenges that we relish at I DO.

From the start our journey with Anna & Alan was fun.  It was clear that they loved music and festivals more than anything, they spent any spare funds travelling far and wide to catch their favourite bands and soak up that festival atmosphere.   They loved colour and nothing too conventional.

Anna’s parents were worried that the wedding could end up looking completely untraditional and not seem like a wedding at all.  They had guests flying in from far and wide and really wanted to make sure that the wedding was everything that Anna & Alan wanted, but also contained a level of elegance.  We worked with the whole family to ensure that everyone was happy.

Anna adores turquoise and so the colour featured heavily in our theme.  They weren’t afraid to let us experiment with different colours and we hope that you like the end result.  It certainly represented their vibrant personalities perfectly.

Personal touches were in abundance and included: bespoke lanyards for each guest, an illustration of the couple, a spectacular festival themed cake with figurines of Anna & Alan in wellies with a yurt topper,  a fingerprint camper van, a home-made photo booth, personalised M&M’s, pebbles for guests to write their well wishes and a plethora of pomanders, balloons and flowers in our chosen colour scheme.

We worked hard to create the overall look and would love to hear your views.

REAL WEDDING: Lindsay & Dave – Beachside Chic at Newton Hall

2014-04-13_0021

Lindsay and Dave came to us as a busy couple living in Cheshire and planning a wedding in the North East.  They needed someone to guide them through the planning process and create a whimsically romantic, yet fun and relaxed design for their day.

They were a completely relaxed and fun loving couple who were immensely happy that they were able to pledge their love for each other in front of their closest family and friends.

Lindsay looked simply stunning in a Jenny Packham gown.  Teamed with a mixed palette of Maids to Measure bridesmaid dresses the overall look was beautiful.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when their Mums got up to give them their last kiss.  We simply love this touch; the woman that brought them into the World and carried them for nine months in her belly, kissing their child ‘goodbye’ as they enter a new chapter of their lives.

We hope that the images below show what a fun and happy day it was for everyone.

REAL WEDDING: Gina & Dave’s ‘Vintage Britain’ Summer Marquee Wedding

0844_610

Our brief from Gina & Dave was to plan a wedding that enabled them to make lasting memories in their new home.  They wanted a classically British marquee wedding with an elegant yet vintage design and a free flowing feel to the day.

As busy professionals they were limited on time and wanted a planner that they could reply on to pull it all together.

The ceremony took place in their local church, followed by guests being handed a glass of champagne to begin the half mile piper led walk down to their home for the reception.  It was the perfect start to their life as Mr & Mrs Henderson, walking through their own village surrounded by their family and friends – what a great story to pass down the generations.

We planned and assisted with every little detail for their wedding; from sourcing every contractor, implementing the design, and even driving the bride to Church on the big day at the last minute.

Gina & Dave love Britain and especially have a huge affinity to their home county.  They wanted this to come through in the design; tables were thus named after British greats, muted union jacks were used to house floral designs, the food was traditional Yorkshire fayre, their wedding cake was a stack of regional cheeses and we even created personalised bags of Yorkshire mixture sweets as favours.  Dave wore a kilt to represent his Scottish heritage and Yorkshire roses and thistles were used within the floristry.

Their fun side was injected at the Wedding Breakfast where a nominated guest at each table was given a novelty apron to wear to carve the joint for their table.

After the meal and speeches the evening reception was kicked off with a cocktail reception and the cake cutting, which we had saved for the evening guests to see.  A 60s band saw everyone dancing and drinking until late in the evening.

Gina wore a beautiful Caroline Castigliano Gown with her Bridesmaids in Dessy.

REAL WEDDING: Harvey & Julia – Summer Fun at Fountains Abbey

W Julia & Harvey [Full-Res Colour] 335

Julia & Harvey came to us for inspiration after booking Fountains Abbey.  They had been engaged for 14 years but life had always got in the way of a wedding.

They don’t live in Yorkshire and thus wanted someone to be able to work with local suppliers and create the day of their dreams.  Julia was initially worried about the transformation of Fountains Restaurant into a wedding reception venue, especially given the very short timescale available to do it in after the public visitors had left.  She wanted a team that she could trust to create something beautiful in a limited period of time.

They are a lively family and adore playing games, that naturally became the focus for the day; pass the pigs, snakes & ladders, pick up sticks and other games were available during the drinks reception.  They even had a round of bingo after the wedding breakfast and danced around with glow sticks late into the evening.

As well as fun they wanted an elegant design, using purples and blues we created a theme that was ‘grown up’, yet still fit with their youthful personalities.
